Kwankwa Goes Home To Seek Royal Blessings Ahead Of The Elections

Tradition and politics came together on Friday as UDM Buffalo City mayoral candidate Nqabayomzi Kwankwa sought the blessings of the AmaRharhabe Kingdom.

The United Democratic Movement (UDM) Mayoral Candidate for Buffalo City, Nqabayomzi Kwankwa, was formally presented to the AmaRharhabe Kingdom last Friday, 23 October 2026.

The significant cultural journey took place at Mngqesha Great Place near eQonce, following early morning clan blessings at the Kwankwa Homestead in EmaTshaweni, Pirie Mission, where Kwankwa joined AmaTshawe elders for sacred traditional rites.

The ceremony was attended by UDM President General Bantu Holomisa, UDM Secretary General Bulelani Bobotyane, and senior UDM officials, as well as King Vululwandle Jonguxolo kaSandile and the AmaRharhabe Royal Council. Scores of UDM supporters and voters were also present to witness the occasion, held just twelve days before the November 4 municipal polls.

Kwankwa said it was important to begin at the Kingdom before starting the campaign because the UDM believes deeply in customs and religion. He added that he also has profound respect for King Vululwandle Jonguxolo kaSandile. He emphasized that it was important that his leadership be seen to be grounded in tradition.

The proceedings were conducted in accordance with strict Xhosa royal protocol, with Kwankwa being officially presented to the King for royal blessings. The event concluded with a joint media briefing where General Holomisa addressed national governance and traditional leadership integration, while Kwankwa outlined his municipal development blueprint for Buffalo City.
