EFF leader Julius Malema on campaign trail
Julius Malema returns for the first time since his sentencing, shifting his focus from the legal battle that dominated his previous visits to campaigning for votes ahead of the local government elections.
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema is returning to KuGompo City tomorrow, as the party intensifies its grassroots campaign ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
Malema, known to his EFF supporters as the Commander-in-Chief (CIC), will bring his door-to-door campaign to Bhongweni, Duncan Village and Mdantsane, three communities that have serious lack of service delivery issues.
He will start his day with a door-to-door campaign at Altar For All Nations Voting District in eBhongweni, a township on the outskirts of King Phalo Airport in KuGompo Ciry. He will then proceed to Philemon Ngcelwane High School Voting District in Mdantsane. He will end his campaign with a community meeting in Duncan Village in the afternoon, The Coastal understands.
His return comes as the party seeks to strengthen its presence on the ground, engaging directly with residents about their concerns and presenting its programme of action to improve their living conditions.
In Bhongweni, land access remains a key community concern, placing pressure on political leaders to address residents’ demands and clarify what practical solutions they can offer.
The firebrand leader is returning to KuGompo City for the first time after he was handed a five-year jail sentence for firearm discharge incident which occurred in Sisa Dukashe stadium, in Mdantsane.
This time he is setting his foot in the city not to answer to any charges, but rally EFF supporters ahead of local government elections.
During his trial Buffalo City EFF members showed him a lot of support as they were forever present outside court.
The party has nominated Mkhululi Ndlevu as its mayoral candidate for Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality.
